What makes clothing truly sustainable?
We've kept sustainability at the forefront of our process, but the reality of sustainability in fashion is quite tricky. It's fairly simple to say we're sustainable but what does that really mean? While sourcing our "sustainable" fabrics, we dug deeper.
The supply chain for fabrics can be quite complex and fragmented, making it challenging to source fully sustainable materials. The system makes it so difficult to trace the origins of raw materials and understanding the environmental and social impacts at each step of the supply chain.
Even natural fabrics that we've used, like organic cotton can have significant environmental footprints with water usage and land use.
Ensuring fair labor practices through the entire supply chain is complex as well with many tiers of production involved– from cotton cultivation, ginning, spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing, to where we get to hold and feel the fabrics.
In an effort to ensure sustainable practices and ethical labour, as much as was in our control, we made it a point to personally visit the factories and places where our product is being made, as often as we could to make sure everything's running in a safe, ethical and environmentally friendly manner.
Our further effort includes creating opportunities for an undecided circular community where our limited quantity tees are exchanged and loved again. The undecided gang leaves a tee, takes a tee.
What can we do as people who want to buy sustainably?
Mindful consumption! Invest in high-quality clothes that stand the test of time. Invest in the craftsmanship and quality. Something we've put our heart and soul into getting done. Something that undecided has decided.
Take care of your tees. We all hate reading those skinny washcare labels, but caring for your clothing means extending its life.
Our commitment at Undecided goes beyond fashion trends. We create art. Together we can make a positive impact by choosing quality over quantity, embracing sustainable fashion choices as much as is in our control, while building a wardrobe that reflects style AND conscience.
Sleep better at night.
